C.D. On Songs: Jamie Lynn Hart – "Been Missing"

>We know next week is going to move so slowly for you because you are all excited about One Night Band. So we’re looking out for you in advance. Thursdays are always the longest day of the week, so after work ends you can stumble over to Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square and take in a performance by a bona fide song bird in the form of one of today’s featured artists, Jamie Lynn Hart.

Jamie Lynn Hart’s performance in “Been Missing” is what brings the song into its own after a languid start. The strength of the song becomes fully realized when Hart arrives at the chorus and really begins to stretch out the old vocal chords. “Old” may not be the appropriate adjective, Hart’s voice sounds young and strong throughout the entire track – especially when she hits the chorus.

The melody of the chorus and the key of the song combine to form a venn diagram of musical sweetness that we will define as Jamie Lynn Hart’s vocal wheelhouse. Hart is clearly comfortable in the chorus and makes it realize its own full potential. Her voice has a powerful resonance that may remind some of fellow local artist Paula Cole, yet has a bluer tint to her melodies than She Who Does Not Want To Wait.

The slow clap of the beat combined with the sentimental tone makes this more of a slow-dancer than an upbeat affair. “Been Missing” is a not going to rock your socks off, but it’s a textured, enjoyable track, featuring a standout performance by a talented performer. The voice is perhaps the most personal expression of music, and Jamie Lynn Hart has an exemplary one that stands out on its own and brings the song home.

Want to submit your band’s song to C.D. On Songs?
To be reviewed in a C.D. On Songs column, please:

*Be a Boston-based band/artist.
*Email a single mp3/m4a/etc. (or a download link to one) to cdonsongs (at) gmail (dot) com, with the subject line “C.D. on Songs” (DO NOT send us a bunch of songs and make us pick, we will ignore you). We require a file – not a streaming link.
*Include album cover art if you have any. If you don’t, a band photo or logo is acceptable.
*Tell us when you want to see it! Give us the date of your show and we’ll make sure it runs as close as possible to that day. No kidding.

We will assume that we have your permission to make the song downloadable on Boston Band Crush (readers will want to hear it, after all). If that’s not ok with you, say so and provide us with a link to the song on an embeddable player like ReverbNation – something we can include in the post (and not just link to).
