Jessica Sun Lee is one-half of the newly emerged project Secret Satellites and the singer/songwriter/guitarist from ex-rockers The Sun Lee Sunbeam. She likes scooters, shoes, and the letter S. She can be found amongst the shadows of Richard Bouchard’s hats in pizza-eating photo opps – which she’ll be taking brief breaks from in order to play the bass in this year’s One Night Band.
BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most like to have a One Night Band with?
JSL: Tough question! I’d probably have to say Nico from the Televandals. I love the sounds he creates on the Moog and guitar.
BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most fear having a One Night Band with?
JSL: Anyone who takes themselves too seriously. I’m doing this for fun and the experience of it all. I want the band I end up with to rock, of course, but not at the risk of a cool day and night.
BBC: What is your normal song or part writing process? Will writing three songs in a single day drastically differ from your usual approach to creating music?
JSL: I don’t have much collaborative songwriting experience, so it’ll be totally different. I’ve written all of my songs solo with either the bass or guitar. I start with a riff and a vibe. If something sticks, I focus on the vocal melody and lyrics, and then the overall progression ’til it’s done enough to record a rough demo. On a rare occasion I’ve finished more than a song a day, but I’m hoping the fact that there’ll be 5 musicians who’ve gotten BBC’s attention will make this whole thing possible 
BBC: What Boston band do you have the biggest crush on right now?
JSL: I don’t play favorites. There are a ton of local bands that romance the vast moods of the little people who dance in my head and heart.
